Carraghs Gem 1,675
Ive had dogs lose most of their fur when bedded on straw... I would say there was something wrong with the dogs so. I've used wheaten straw and nothing else from day one with no problems, and that's for several breeds. Hay is for feeding to horses and barley straw is a NO NO too. dogs were unrelated and on different feeds and otherwise healthy, was some kind of mite, washed the dogs in sheep dip and their fur grew back. 2 Quote Link to post

baz 463
I use that waxed paper stuff, always dry, and doesn't flatten off Quote Link to post
DazAllison1 556
Ive used them all but found shredded wax paper the best, it can get everywhere but aslong as you keep on top of it everyday its fine, a good deep bed helps keep it tidy aswell Quote Link to post
SINDASOX 256
Been using the shredded wax paper for a few years now, but haven't been able to get it down here in South Wales at the moment. The guy that used to come down to the greyhound track doesn't seem to come down no more. SINDASOX Quote Link to post

toblue 149
Fleece vet bed , washes well an lasts years, no mess either. Double thickness Vet bed with coats on is best bet. I do like straw but it needs to be very good quality soft wheat straw and changed minimum weekly and fluffed up daily as it breaks down very quickly. Hay is a no, no. It has no insulating properties like straw and clumps up. Quote Link to post

duroc 7
When we had our hounds we used good oat straw. My dad also used to do a lot small bales of oat for the local hunt. Quote Link to post

king 11,972
Celotex or kingspan in the bottom of there wooden box. And a piece of black conveyor belt on top. Used to put blankets etc in there but the dogs would pull that into the run and piss on it.they must be telling me they don't like it lol. They liked sleeping on the belting. Quote Link to post
