Starting To Think It's Stolen!

Recommended Posts

Our lass bought a Renault Clio a few months back from a guy of auto trader that said he sold vans and got it in px. He said the logbook hadn't come thru yet but he's send it soon as it did, so she paid him and took the car, 4 months on and still no log book and he won't answer his phone. No log book = no tax or insurance etc so this things just sat on the drive now and I can't even scrap it without a logbook. If I ring the police will they just confiscate it? Do me for buying stolen goods? ( obviously I didn't/don't no if it actually is stolen, it's just starting to look a bit dodgy) what can I do? I did quite a bit to it after she bought it as he wasn't the most truthful when telling her the problems with it either but sold as seen and all that lol

Cheers I'll try text one of them things tonight and see what it says. If it's ok I'll apply for a new logbook (cheers for the Link walshie) and just sell it. If it comes back stolen do I just report it all to police and they take it away?

Edited to add that she didn't get a new keepers slip either so there no proof that we actually own it!

I would only involve the police as a last resort. They will make life difficult and will end up charging you storage fees if they take it away. Obviously you are aware that as soon as know or SUSPECT that an item in your posession is stolen then you commit an offence........

If it turns out to be nicked the rightful owners insurance company may have already paid out on it, in which case the vehicle belongs to the insurance company. They might not want it if its a shed in which case its yours or they may want to do a deal with you.........in eirther case the cops will look to put the recovery and storage charged at somebodys door.

My advice is dont buy a car off them dodgy fuckers. Theyll reel off any excuse to sell you the car. When theres no log book alarm bells should be ringing. I've had my fingers burnt by them before, never again.
