Somewhereyournot 1,117
Il post some pics. Nowt fancy really though lol three walls, drain in floor with a tin roof. My galv panels will be facing main building that's 3ft away so would cut out a lot of weather id of thought. Plus il be able to have electric as well in there, my chest freezer, some shelves and a good strong warm bedding area. Be ready for my pup then in June. Quote Link to post
BIGLURKS 874
What about a raised bed just make it deep fill with straw and a heat lamp Quote Link to post
fox digger 1,086
Get some 100mil king span in the floor screed mate As previously stated its defeating the purpose to insulate an exterior slab! The heat is in the ground not in the outside air so you would be keeping a cold slab colder by insulating it! That the whole concept of geothermal heating mate! To the post author, a timber box in the run with some form of dry bedding or carpet will more than suffice to keep the dog cosy. Heat lamps or any form of heating is unnecessary and expensive to run in my opinion. 90% of dog owners have there dog in the yard with a timber kennel in a corner and they are perfect. Gaz_1989 9,539
I've tried to complicate things in the past. I'm down the old fashioned route at the moment. Straw. Keeps the dogs warm whatever the weather. And if you think it's gonna be a cold one... Add more straw. 1 Quote Link to post
Qbgrey 4,089
Insulating under the concrete floor like we do in a new home is unessary for a kennel, better to put insulation on top and lay s floating floor .ghdn build box around sides n top with insulation between walls and wood box.atleast anyheat your dog gives off will hold longer.sit on a sheet of kingspan and you will feel the heat instantly. 2 Quote Link to post
Boristheblade 1,367
Thanks somewereyournot. I wasn't going to even bother with a drain as the kennels are miles away and down hill from the main drain, think I'll just dog a big soakaway further down the garden and run it to that. It's very rare that the dogs ever pee or poo in the kennel probably once or twice in the last 12 months so it's no biggie. Thanks for all advice. 1 Quote Link to post
boyo 1,398
Hpr. Years ago i put underfloor htg in my bigger kennels then tiled on top & dogs wouldn't go in it so i had to disconnect it?? Ive redone kennels & now got 100mm kingspan under tiled floor & in roof 50mm kingspan in walls & a while back when really cold snap i put heatlamps on & all dogs laid in run as too warm in kennels so turned heat lamps off. Chaff 3,606
Get some 100mil king span in the floor screed mate Should of said only under dogs bed area, when on site we have our tea breaks during winter and sit on that stuff and you get a warm arse from it Quote Link to post
HPR 1,160
I thought you ment you was building the beds out of blocks . Then doing the floor inside . I've built mine out of bricks blocks done the floor out of screed under floor heating then tiled then put a dog flap on front to stop any drafts . Under floor heating will only be used when needed . Qbgrey 4,089
The key is draught free.raised off floor, dry,no damp.I have heating cause I believe a fatigued, sore, wet, tired dog needs a little bit of artificial warmth to help them through the bitterest of nights. 1 Quote Link to post
HPR 1,160
That's why I did it . I've got the gundogs . Obviously the best nights are cold and wet . The first thing I want to do when I get in is get dry warm and fed . So that's what the dogs get . 1 Quote Link to post
