Somewhereyournot 1,117
Building the block up shortly was just wondering what people use in concrete kennels for bedding etc whether the kennel box itself will need better heat/insulation because concrete will be colder? Any suggestions welcome. Quote Link to post
Qbgrey 4,091
Cold wont be to bad if walls are concrete blocks, floor if concrete could be cold, roof will be were cold comes in.knock up a timber box within the building off floor a bit.offcutd off kingspan, celotex, reticel, etc are good insulators between walls and timber box 1 Quote Link to post

Somewhereyournot 1,117
Ai I was thinking of a box up off the floor. Basically got that already with wooden kennel n run. It's up against a building so can't see being much draft either. Three walls with galvanised panels then as the front. Quote Link to post
ginger beard 4,652
just make sure its draught proof and maybe put a drain in if its a big block.will be much easier for cleaning. 1 Quote Link to post
Somewhereyournot 1,117
Ye was looking at drainage yesterday. I was going to put a big ish round one in kennel floor so could sweep shit n everything into that as I can connect it to the drainage in garden. What people recommend for roof? Been told to use wood with felt on then tin roof on top. Quote Link to post

Truther 1,579
Just to save some money for the two lads saying put kingspan in floors...........Waste of time, in a house/building it stops heat loss through the floor, concrete sucks at your heating, external floors open to elements will be cold anyway..........Dig down and the ground temp is always higher than surface temp, Kingspan would actually make the floor colder in theory, preventing ground heat striking up. So heated buildings enclosed.........good idea to put in, floors open to elements a waste of money if that makes sense. To OP...........I use double skinned ply box, void between ply filled with insulation, insulation on floor of box covered with a few layers of carpet, two layers of carpet on outside of box, dogs heat it up with body heat easily, works a treat. 2 Quote Link to post
