shropshire mole 190
Scottsh Pestie here... When do you guys expect to start treating wasps nests where you are located? When the phone starts ringing for a wasp nest Have not yet seen any queen wasps flying about so far this year, seen a couple of bumble bees each day over last few days Quote Link to post
Rowan 308
all depends on the weather , usually start June - ish though .... Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Usually get the odd call when they start waking up, then the odd call when the mortar bees start, but not often much general action on proper nests until mid-late summer, then through to early autumn! Quote Link to post
ScottishPestie 0
Out of curiosity what's the earliest in the year any of you have been called out for wasps? Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Out of curiosity what's the earliest in the year any of you have been called out for wasps? February, a few years back, fertilised females that had survived the winter were waking up in a school gym and causing concerns. They insisted I went even though I told them what I thought was happening, and there would basically be FA I could do about it if I was right! Quote Link to post
nod 285
Middle of may you start getting few calls for them but they are just starter nests where people are working in lofts Quote Link to post
scottwalston167 0
If you eliminate the queen you get rid of the nest. Powder is among the most effective because the wasps bring food to the queen and if they're covered in poison powder she's finished .When I was 17 I had a job driving round killing wasps nests. Protective suit was perfect for these parties too . Quote Link to post

Dr mole 15
Saw my first queen wasp of the season last Friday in a customers garden. Hopefully, with them not emerging too early it's a good omen. Loads of Bumbles about today so they seem to have survived the winter in good numbers. Maybe the wasps have too? Quote Link to post

I used to find em in drystone walls when walling, I would always build em a nice little grass filled home in the wall so the could carry on there sleep! Quote Link to post
