walshie 2,804
Do you mean where you live as in what town, or what building you live in - as in tent/caravan/house? It shouldn't make a difference as long as the security is up to scratch. Quote Link to post

Blackdog92 2,047
If you have a clean record and your safes secure and hidden, and you have a good intetion of owning a shotgun theres not much more you can do. Quote Link to post
jok 3,211
Strange. There is no legal requirement for a cabinet. Quote Link to post
jok 3,211
Walshie. It shouldn't make any difference if your security is up to scratch? That doesn't cut it. Break a shotgun down into 3 parts , secure them any way but which, and you are legal. Quote Link to post

If you secured your gun as you suggested, it;s up to scratch.... but try getting a SGC without one. Quote Link to post
jok 3,211
Nice call. I think you meant it the other way but agree to differ. Anyway, the safe thing is clearly to have a cabinet which gives peace of mind. Quote Link to post
jok 3,211
Actually. Thinking out loud. Try getting the SGC without having a cabinet is a no brainer. They can't refuse. That's the law. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Unfortunately, the law is incredibly subjective when it comes to firearms. Their security is perhaps the second biggest consideration, after the applicant is deemed seemingly fit to have one in the first place. If the firearms licensing manager, who ultimately represents the Chief Officer of police is not satisfied with your security, then obviously a certificate won't be granted. It may be the case that they will refuse to grant or renew a certificate with multiple firearms where a cabinet is not present because they deem a gun cable or clamp as inadequate. But security is made up of levels, so you may only have a gun cable securing 20 shotguns, yet your gun cable is in a basement ten feet below the house secured by a vault door with a fort on top... The easiest option is usually a cabinet. They're not that expensive and do "what it says on the tin" as it were. To the OP - Merseyside Police have a firearms licensing department so it's reasonable to assume that some people who live there own certificates...they will look at the area in which you live, for instance if it has a high crime rate. This will inform their opinion on security and they may insist on additional levels of security if you live in one of these areas. It's unlikely to be very difficult to convince them so if you want to take up shooting, it's worth a applying. You don't lose anything by doing so. Quote Link to post
jok 3,211
Yes. But that does not alter the fact that you do not require a security cabinet, by law. They can jink about all day long but at the end of the day they must issue the licence. We do not require, by law, a security cabinet. End of. Quote Link to post
The one 8,463
Okay you don't legally need a cabinet try telling that to your F.A.O and see if they grant you a certain you don't need a cabinet for ammo either but most folk that wish to obtain a licence will get one 1 Quote Link to post
