Gaz_1989 9,539
Myxi is in full swing on one of our permissions now. Terrier was loving it, my pup nailed one out in the open and my mates dog grabbed one as it flew from cover... Quote Link to post

krawnden 1,036
It's always a mixed blessing - fantastic for boosting the self-confidence of youngsters, but at the same time hideous to see. And if you get it really bad it can absolutely decimate the population. A mate of mine had it bad on one of his perms 3 years ago and it virtually wiped them out completely. Even now there's almost no rabbits on there. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Yeh Deffo good for the youngsters lads. This particular permission gets it bad every year krawnden but always seems to bounce back. Quote Link to post

Gaz_1989 9,539
Cheers plucky and tb25. Some of them can definitely still run yeh. krawnden - I'm no scientist but been thinking that maybe it's the areas with smaller (more inbred) rabbit populations that get hit worse by the Myxi? Larger areas where the rabbits aren't forced to inbreed so much might be stronger and have more chance of recovery or resilience? 1 Quote Link to post
krawnden 1,036
Maybe. There has to be some explanation. I guess either the rabbits are stronger or maybe there are stronger and weaker strains of myxi? And perhaps conditions at the time the virus strikes play a part too - if food's scarce at the time the rabbits will probably succumb more easily. I'd be interested to know if anybody can shed more light on the subject... Quote Link to post
