Keep them separated before she hurts the pup?

Only you will know when fella..   Once you know they are fine..   I'd not leave a small pup with a adult dog in a pen.   Pups can pester and provok trouble..   I'd keep it in a crate for a b

When I get a new pup my older dogs ain't happy..I just keep an eye on them easier for me as there indoors.. But if I see older dog going for pup for no reason I ain't slow in putting older dog straigh

Keep at it mate.I worried myself sick at first about my pair.plenty long walks and that and am sure it will come together mate..

I hope so, sooner the better really as the buggers still waking up in the night howling. Thing is i dont like taking a pup out not jabbed up, he had his 1st one today though. I know of a place where no other dogs go so might whip them both up there couple times this week.

Sorry to put my oar in, but it is really not fair on the bitch to put a pup in her bed when she doesn't want it there. Dogs are social animals, for sure, but it is asking for trouble to expect an adult bitch to accept a pup that is not her own. The one place where she should be able to sleep and rest in peace, is now no longer her place of safety and retreat. Dogs also put up with a lot, for a long time, and then one day they can literally snap, and break the pup as easily as they would kill a rabbit. Is it really worth the risk? And, from the pup's point of view, it doesn't do the pup any good at all having to share space with an adult who is really peed off with the situation. Rearing pups should be all about giving a pup confidence. It doesn't do it any good to put it in a situation where it is constantly being told off just for being there. Sure, they may be fine ... but I wouldn't inflict a pup on any of even my most tolerant bitches if they didn't want it there. Some people think its funny to see photos like this: I just feel sorry for the bitch in a stressful situation. People say dogs are 'sulking'. What a load of crap: dogs don't sulk, as such. What that bitch is doing is showing stress.

Sulking, peed off or stressed. choose any word you like but bitch the older bitch obviously isn't happy at the moment. She's just going to have to put up with it. I would say the odds are that she won't kill it but eventually accept it and, since dogs are social animals, she'll be glad of the company in the long run. It's just a matter of time. I accept what you say about the pup's confidence taking a hit, but lip curling and snapping are part of the pup's socialisation and the pup will understand and accept that. Keep us updated Sweeney. As has been said the key is to get them out together as much as possible. I would find a space without any scent (a sandy area if possible) and encourage them to play together. It's worked for me in the past.

Well after the pup waking up howling and screaming the house down for 20 mins every hour or 2 last night i decided enough was enough. I took them both out to a field thats very secure and doesn't get any dogs in and walked them together. They kept there distance for most of it but the bitch even made a playful jump towards the pup. So i took them back, fed them both and have put them in the kennel.

This young kid put a pup in with an older bitch, when he was a younger kid. And he learnt from his lesson.

You aren't valuing other people's opinions above mine, what's happening here is you are getting mixed opinions and as is often the case in these situations you will take the advice that suits you best, not necessarily the best advice.

But hey, you carry on chief. Won't affect me one bit. My dogs all live in harmony.

All the best.
