Older Bitch Snapping At Pup

Recommended Posts

Got a 7 week old pup, had him indoors for 3 days and tonight decided to move him into the kennel. I put him in and the bitch 4 yr collie whippet grey growled at him... I picked him up and brought them both indoors, the bitch growled and then went for the pup. Shes never been like this with any other dog and has been kenneled with other dogs before. I really dont know what to do. Any ideas?

Keep them separated before she hurts the pup?

Only you will know when fella..   Once you know they are fine..   I'd not leave a small pup with a adult dog in a pen.   Pups can pester and provok trouble..   I'd keep it in a crate for a b

When I get a new pup my older dogs ain't happy..I just keep an eye on them easier for me as there indoors.. But if I see older dog going for pup for no reason I ain't slow in putting older dog straigh

Well thats pretty self explanatory mate. Obviously not gonna put the pup in the kennel with her after that. But i now need to think about the next step... Will she come round as the pup gets abit older... I cant keep then pup indoors as i already have a terrier indoors. Its ok for short term but certainly not long term.

Put the bitch in her place.you are the alpha of your pack show the bitch who's the boss.

Ive had older dogs try it on with pups.especially around a food bowl I won't stand for any of that shit. Ive had chickens eating from the same bowl as my dogs.

Supervised exposure mate..

After a few stints she should accept the pup..

Pain if she don't. .

I've got one fighter and it's always at the back of your mind.

Good luck with your pup

Only you know if the dogs capable of killing the pup, i slung mine strait in with my older dog and he soon put pup in his place funny enough i just heard pup have a sing song 8 months later still has a niggle at him but now the pup outsizes the older dog there at a stale mate .. New kennels over summer and they will be seperate before pups finds his big cahonas atb

Thing is the pup did absolutely nothing, i just popped him down in sleeping bit and she had a growl straight away.... And then continued in the house. Its totally out of character for this dog. She even lets other dogs come up and eat her food if they finish theres 1st. She just backs straight dowm... Very bizzare why shes suddenly being like this.
