Lol, I been with my wife for about 31 years and I feel I'm lucky to have found the right one. She loves a good working dog and is not afraid to get.dirty..but, she will not dispatch one..the lady that got me into this is around 70 years old now and one of the finest dog women you will ever met..she has working Jacks and they are as tough as they come..she won't keep a none worker..all her dogs have there bronze med..this lady changed the way I looked at hunting! I never thought of hunting the earth then she took me out and I fell in love..she taught me everything I know and I'm forever grateful for that..it's a shame she has moved away from here..great hunter and a great women. And I'm grateful I have a wife that loves the dogs like me and loves the woods..I guess you can say it's a triple partner ship, me the wife and the dogs..lol

Once I can see my post I will post pics of my dogs and my go to ground..my go to ground is good for young dogs..and next month when the weather breaks I'm gonna build a big one..I burrowed them under the ground instead of above ground. So I will open up my holes so you guys can see what I did

Hi foxdropper, snow isn't a bad thing, just makes it hard to see my go to ground because it's under the snow..I'm gonna try and take pics today of it..and I like to use it for my pups. I wouldn't send one of my pups that's only 3 maybe 4 months old in a set..a 25lb coon or ground hog will have there way with them. I use it for fun and to let them use there nose to find the quarry I put in at the other end in a roll cage..so they can work it through the cage..so it's teaching them a few different things..one to locate and go in, 2- to use there nose, 3-to work the guarry.bay and engage..from your post it sounds like you just let your pups go in a real set and work the quarry as a young pup? Have you lost any doing so? Because here in the states I'm from the north and if you through a small pup in a set and he gets to a medium size coon he is gonna get his butt handed to him..and if he finds a ground hog and the hog decides to fight wich they do that pup will be done..they will open you pup up like a can of tuna..lol..maybe I take it to slow I don't know..that's how I was taught how to start my dogs and it seems to have worked well in the past..if I'm doing something wrong please tell, I'm open for suggestions..im here to learn I'm not a no it all type of guy.im open minded..thanks

I think everyone on here will agree that putting a 3 or 4 month pup down a hole regardless of what species you hunt is a bit daft, but I recon most will start on rats first. I tend to start on rats about 8 months, then see how they mature but I wouldn't contemplate putting a dog to ground under 13 months, even then it would have to be an easy one.

Yes I agree with you..that's why I just use the go to ground for teaching..and letting them have some fun. I also start out on rats..I just showed my little ones a couple days ago..my male was all about it And my female didn't look as good...I made a rat roll cage and gonna let them mess with it in that and go from there..anyone have any suggestions? I will post pics of my pups tonight..thanks for any advice I appreciate it..
