Jack1234 10
What are people's opinions on breeding a young dog with little or no work done. I have a working terrier bitch and want to breed her soon. Have a young dog with nothing done but came from a line of good stuff. Would it be worth a chance trying him with the proven bitch? DigItDeep 15
Personally I wouldn't chance it. No matter how good off line it came from, there's good and bad in every litter and you could have (but hopefully not) ended up with something not worth breeding from. Is there no other dog you can use? Quote Link to post
Peter Leemooch 160
why not just buy something proven instead of breed something unproven if it is just to save money bad mistake imo 3 Quote Link to post

Jack1234 10
It's nothing to do with money just I own the dog and bitch and would like to start something of my own. It's the only dog I have but I know where it came from and all good stuff. I know ideally i should wait but the bitch will be working next season and if anything happens her then I will have nothing off of her. 1 Quote Link to post
Poacherspocket 189
If shes off a well worked line and something happens to her before shes tested just get another off that line. If its a well tested line there must be plenty of stuff from it on the ground. 2 Quote Link to post

shaneg 2,578
Do whatever you think is right. As long as you tell the truth about the parents to anyone that's interested in them and aren't breeding to make money. Only you can choose what way you want to go with your dogs Quote Link to post
j1985 1,983
I'd be happier giving a pup out of tried an tested sire to a well bred bitch a go than the other way round, not sure why tho lol Edited March 1, 2016 by j1985 Quote Link to post
taz2010 1,297
this is why there is shite about,i think this subject as been done many times,my opinion test the dogs you are going to breed from not one season, not 2 but several i would never breed a bitch till she had atleast 5 seasons behind her or the dog no matter how she is bred but thats only my opinion on the mattter,to much shite been thrown about by exactly doing this and you wonder why loads are looking for decent terriers rant over 5 Quote Link to post
pablo esc 1,598
So you wouldn't breed of anything till it is about seven years old, thats great, but some can't do that unless the have other Mungrels, and yes you're right the plenty are just breeding for a different purpose, or names, and £££ 4 Quote Link to post
Dig-deep-draw-charlie 2,713
Correct me if I am wrong, has this not been done in the "famous" terrier lines??? Quote Link to post

As someone said they are your terriers to do what you want with. BUT, ask yourself this......if your breed of that young dog and next Winter when you have 6 or 7 month old pups of him and he is no good, what do you do ? 6 Quote Link to post
