PINNACLE 2,297
My 7-year-old Saluki cross has been acting a bit funny for a quite few months now. The symptoms are. She starts licking her nose and does a strange sort of discomfort licking round her mussel. When it is bad she tries to scratch her nose. She will also start to feed and the walk away from her food duelling. I have taken her to our vet. The first time they thought it was a stomach complaint and gave her some pills to sort it and we changed her diet but it had no effect. Next they sedated her and gave her a thorough examination and a tooth clean but found nothing. The next time they took a video and sent it to super vet down in Godalming who said it was neurological, but they said they could not do anything to sort it. I had another vet look at her who said it was indigestion and we changed her food again and raised her bowls but again she is having the same issues. She is not suffering in a bad way and is still quite up for a mooch and run around but a few times a week or at most once or twice a day she really does not seem right, ANY IDEAS? Quote Link to post
PINNACLE 2,297
Let's see the video The vet took the video but I can take one next time she does it. Thanks for the reply. Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
She hasnt got access to anything dodgy has she? My lurcher kept having funny turns last year, turned out he was stealing blood fish & bone meal from the spare bedroom! Quote Link to post
PINNACLE 2,297
Nope She is also not the stealing type like my other one who will and has ate everything and is still running round like a nutter. I do not think it is a food thing or habitat as in air fresheners or sprays as they are minimal and she has been fine around the house for 61/2 years+ 1 Quote Link to post
Qbgrey 4,176
If its recently started and the dogs 7,could it not be a growth or something pushing on a nerve, vien etc if you know what I mean.maybe a CT scan may show up something Quote Link to post
PINNACLE 2,297
The vet never mentioned this or a CT scan do you know any more? Quote Link to post
3175darren 1,102
You say licking her nose, has any one looked up her nose for foreign bodies, I saw a spaniel once driven to dispair by a peice of dried grass that had some how got lodged in its nostril,I suppose I am talking crap, but don't understand why the dogs indicating, nose/muzzle and the vets give stomach tablets Edited February 28, 2016 by 3175darren 3 Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
It couldnt possibly be a very mild seizure could it.. I have seen dogs obsessively licking their lips before having a fit as well, i would suggest just trying giving her omega 3 capsules in her dinner each day to see if that helps as it wont do any harm anyway omega 3 can help dogs with very mild epilepsy Quote Link to post
zx12edge 1,001
Had a dog that had similar symptoms turned out to be heavy metal poisoning.have the vets done any blood tests 1 Quote Link to post
Qbgrey 4,176
Just curious as to if it's a involuntary movement something could be pressing on a vital part,so poss a scan of the brain may help to eliminate this.or see like bedn said something up its nose, twig, etc driving it crazy so to speak Quote Link to post
PINNACLE 2,297
Our vet put her under to examine her nose as it was at the time when grass seed was everywhere and we thought it was that. She can go a week or three with nothing but this weekend she has been showing symptoms again, Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
Personally I think that the dog 'wants' to be sick. Maybe give her a little more access to green grass and I'd also change her diet to raw if she isn't on that already..... Quote Link to post

She is now on Arden Grange at he moment which seems to help, I have another lurcher who is he thieving git and will eat everything left around or not locked away and he is healthy so if she ate anything he would have had it first. There's something you can try. It's a long shot, but why not feed her a couple of ginger biscuits three times a day. Quote Link to post
