Chaff 3,636
The land we work gets shot to pieces at night and has done for a few years since getting a new keeper. Which has made the rabbits very lamp shy no matter what filter you care to use, even on perfect windy nights with good approach a click of the lamp and they scatter. Now we still have our share by ferriting by day, just miss the excitement of lamping. Wondered if anyone else has experienced this and found a way round it maybe Atb Quote Link to post
MickyB 327
I stopped using the red filter local over the last couple of weeks, it just sends them running as well, I have just been getting into position where I think they will be and lighting them up on full beam and sending the dog as soon as its on one, the only way I can think as they have obviously picked up on the red as well. 2 Quote Link to post

The dog has better odds ,them ones that know the score, dont even let up on the dykes and will be straight through if the dogs not snapped them up.. Quote Link to post

bunnyboiler 1,054
I'm sure I read that rabbits don't see colour just light so I don't think the filter makes any difference they just see light might be wrong though ? I use the red filter as it helps me spot the quarry better when I see the red jewels shinning back at me ?Have you tried a lamp with a dimmer switch mate ? No I haven't it only dims when low on battery Reckon keeper must be noticing himself and might give it a rest. Interesting about them not seeing colour so perhaps coloured filters just act as a dimmer ? Quote Link to post

I been gettin that idea, don't think its the colour that much, more the filter makes it really dim, either way they'll clock on to it eventually, would be good to know if anyone can confirm about them seeing what colours Quote Link to post
boyo 1,398
My mate always reckoned rabbits only see light & colour of filter makes no differance just acts as a dimmer & he was saying that 20years ago??!! 2 Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
The only way with truly lampshy bunnies is to sneak to where their sanctuary is and lamp them from there........ That said......On the truly bad windy nights when it's hard to stand up, there won't be many lampshy bunnys....... 2 Quote Link to post
