Any Other Caucasian Ovcharka Owners On Here?

A well bred and we'll trained mastiff/bandog type will do just as much damage if not more the difference is when they are not working they should lay about and chill out which is why I believe they make a better property guard . Whereas most of the European herders are highly charged and constantly switched on and need constant mental stimulation this is why they excel at ipo and knvp style sports as they are hard wired for that type of training but is the reason they are less suited as an out and out guard as you'll end up with a dog going off its rocker at every little sound and eventually going round the twist if it's not getting the stimulation they need.

Hello all,   I thought general chat would be the best place to post this considering an Ovcharka is not a running dog, nor a terrier nor a gundog .   Does anyone else have one of these dogs? I

f**k off socks you wouldn't have a kitchen if it weren't for her if I remember right

I'd have said ... Who the fukc gave you permission to leave the kitchen ......

I can't see the point in a Mali unless your a policeman or security guard for a normal person just looking for a yard/guard dog a mastiff type is much better if someone is half hearted to rob you a mastiff will put them off if they are intent on robbing you no dog will stop them and if your Mali rips a hole in a robber you are in serious trouble and do you really need a dog like a Mali that can take a man down and tear him up

where i live you need one, hes not a dog to leave to his own devices but if he wasnt here i would be in same boat as a few of my neighbours who have been robbed and some attacked in their own homes and left tied up + he is a lot more fun than a mastiff as im able to try my hand at pretty much any sport just for the hell of it because he is such a versatile animal we do IPO style training as well as agility, dock diving and play SAR type games with him and the kids

Exactly Gem that's what I was getting at.Ive lost count of the amount of lads that have come to our club and decided they want a Mali or a dutchy because they've seen a few vids on YouTube. They think they'll be fine and swear they've got enough time to give the dog what it needs then by the time it's 8months old they are trying to give away a nurotic psychopath that wants to attack anything that moves.Thats why I'll stick to my bandog types half an hours walk in the morning an hour at night and a couple of sessions at the club each week and she's happy to just chill out.And if push a me to shove in a hostile situation shell do everything a herder can do.

if i couldn't commit 110% to his training i wouldn't have got him tbvh, he went everywhere with me until he was 12mths old and was still a handful up until 18mths old, hes not for an inexperienced dog owner that is for sure! i searched high and low for a laid back pup with a good solid temperament before i ended up choosing him, some pups are too driven and others too nervy for a family protection dog which is what i was looking for
