Hello all,   I thought general chat would be the best place to post this considering an Ovcharka is not a running dog, nor a terrier nor a gundog .   Does anyone else have one of these dogs? I

f**k off socks you wouldn't have a kitchen if it weren't for her if I remember right

I'd have said ... Who the fukc gave you permission to leave the kitchen ......

My new ferreting dog would take it .....A29B8A4D-A8B3-4DC5-91C2-8E80522536D7.jpg

Sweet Jesus, they say dogs look like there owners ... N that's one ugly dog lol

Just kidding mate, he's not THAT ugly

I'm lucky it isn't my dog then
What breed is it mate ? It's a fair old lump, I just dunno what a dog like that would be for.

If for protection id rather a nice fit type shepherd dog personally , altho I've never seen what one like that can do!

is that a boerbol x ken ?
It's a cane corso Ray .......

thanks ken, they similar to the presa wonder if they better guard than a gsd or bel mal .?
They're more similar in temperament and behaviour to a neopolitan mastiff Ray as they share a lot of common ancestry bother being Italian mastiffs.Neither of which should behave anything like a pressa.
And as for guarding better than a shepherd or a Mali good shepherds are few and far between and I wouldnt even class a Mali as a guard dog.

Out of interest down south what makes you say you wouldn't class a Mali as a gaurd dog ? Not a dig or owt just genuinely interested I don't own any of the shepherd types but know a few good men who rate the malis dutchies n German dogs. I personally wouldn't trust anything made of flesh and bone to protect anything of mine but just interested to hear your opinion ?

I'd class them as more of a patrol dog to work alongside a handler. They are far too highly strung to be left to their own devices guarding a property.Dont get me wrong they are fantastic dogs at what they do but I think the big mastiff types are more suited if you're just after a dog with natural territorial guarding tendancies. Also because a lot of mails are being used for sporting purposes they seem to be becoming very prey driven and getting a lot smaller. Some of the bitches are getting tiny.I train with a few security lads a couple of times a week and just last Sunday they were saying if push came to shove in a real naughty situation they'd all rather have a well trained mastiff/bandog type rather than a herder.

I see what your saying mate and have said the same myself many times that there more of a protection/patrol dog than a yard dog/gaurd dog that can do its job without having a handler there. As I've said I wouldn't trust anything that bleeds to protect my family or property but my parents like having a couple of gaurd dogs about there place and the best by far they've owned is American Bulldogs from good lines but again I think they are getting harder n harder to find (good ones that is).

I've owned ABS for over 15yrs but given up on them now.im not saying you won't find the odd decent one but there's no consistency with them as theres nobody out there testing their stock over multiple generations. They are being bred off the back of stories about famous American dogs from 20yds ago that were probably bullshit made up by some old hillbilly to peddle pups anyway.

Back about 9 year ago We had a American bulldog she was like a mix between the types, lovely dog only fault was if you ran past Her she would grab your ankle and she would try and grab the wheels on kids ride on toys.

Second one missus got when we was split up one ,she's what I would call the Great Dane type lol, that's the one I rehomed on here and ditchshitter has in Ireland now, nice dog and temperament but not patch on first one.

Interestingly when I was in dorset working there was fella would be walking 2 Bulldogs early mornings one of each type ,

The bully type he paid £1500 for ,when they were still quite unknown, the second was last in litter and he paid couple hundred for. And he preferred the older type as well.

I can't see the point in a Mali unless your a policeman or security guard for a normal person just looking for a yard/guard dog a mastiff type is much better if someone is half hearted to rob you a mastiff will put them off if they are intent on robbing you no dog will stop them and if your Mali rips a hole in a robber you are in serious trouble and do you really need a dog like a Mali that can take a man down and tear him up

your right on bel mal , a bloke i know who trained army dogs and police dogs , kept gsds and bel mals at his place. i went round to visit him one day, and the dogs were in a pen but going nuts at me, i thought it like most gsd s or mals make alot of noise etc, but prob not go any further .But feck me was i wrong he had big gsd male mostly black and a big bel mal both 75-80lb. he was doing attack work with them with his mate, i watched them both do the sleeve work, the guy who done the sleeve, his bloody arm was well bruised , and he was fair size bloke good 6ft 14-15st , they nearly took him off his feet  . so one of these 2 dogs i reckon would wreak a person in normal life  . i had bullmastiffs years ago 10st things , ok they were just pets , i know mastiffs types and bigger breeds can be very off putting true , but the ferocity of these mal and gsd were something else when there bred right, there deff not breeds to mess, or try break in somebody house no way not with them 2 .!!
