Wardy 6
I'm investing in an air rifle after a break from shooting for a few years, I've got access to plenty of land over run with rabbits and a couple of barns for a bit of ratting. I really like the look of the BSA ultra multi shot but unsure to go for a .177 or .22. What would be my best option? Quote Link to post

just-A-snap 1,269
With the BSA Ultra SE you cannot go wrong either in .177 or .22, it has the ability to put any top air rifle to shame, and more often than not does. The BSA Scorpion SE is also just as capable in .177 and .22. Quote Link to post

mark williams 7,556
Sub 12 ft/lbs - .177 is "by far" the performance caliber ( for me ) At 18 ft/lbs + the .22 caliber becomes the "performance caliber" ( for me ) If unsure you could ask the many thousands of Hunter/ field target lads their preferred caliber " i suppose" but make no mistake, both calibers are as accurate as each other if you know your set up. Wardy, you mention rabbits are many on your permissions, then .177, especially at night as flat trajectory is much more "forgiving" at range finding, in the dark hours. Well there we go mate but remember - just my humble opinion , Welcome to the forum and " World War Three" 2 Quote Link to post
Lloyd57 98
Up to 30 yards I use my Ultra in .22,30 yards and over I use my Ultra in .177. Lloyd 2 Quote Link to post
mattwhite 1,993
For what its worth, im with Mark on this one.......having said that, if you know your rifle and ranges, there isnt anything you cant do with a .22 that you can with a.177. Some of my pals only shoot .22 and they all hunt with sub 12ftlb at good ranges but in general, the flight path of a .177 is more foregiving. Quote Link to post
Wardy 6
Well there's nothing like making a grand entrance by asking the inevitable newbie k**bhead question. Thanks for the replies. I've only ever shot .22 so having a few opinions on which to buy before I part with my hard earned can't do any harm. 2 Quote Link to post
villaman 9,983
Both will do the same job at all airgun ranges , for the person who says .177 is the best talks out of his backside but I do admit .177 is better at night if your no good at judging ranges I shoot both and have the same results with both Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
Copy Paste. Again. "Both" 1 Quote Link to post
