cantona 310
I thought I had made Good progress with my sprocker pup training wise, had her in the field today with my daughter and didn't notice until to late she had taken of after some crows , then pigeon then more pigeon before finally coming back,I ran to her picked her up and took her back to the kennel , she's 10 month now and starting training classes in a couple of weeks, do you think this might have ruined her chances a bit now for being steady ? Has this happens to others at 10 months and they've turned it round again? Thanks for any replies or advice Quote Link to post
ftm 3,357
keep it on a long lead until you have trained it to stop whistle -you might end up going "e " collar route if it cant be turned around using voice commands Quote Link to post
cantona 310
Usually have her on long lead and no problem, didn't want to resort to e collar but if I can't sort it out with trainer then I might have to , at what age would you think about it if she doesn't stop chasing Quote Link to post

collieman 45
My cocker spaniel did the same thing it is just a puppy thing shows probable a high prey drive and a lack of work/excercise my cocker is fine now 3 years old and when beating pheasants / partridges just ignores the flushed birds. Thanks for any replies or advice The most basic reading of that situation where the dog chases is ,,,the movement / action of the bird stimulate the pup , the pup has to act it feels compelled to move , because up til now no other course of interaction with you or prey has shown it what to do when stimulated , what to do with that energy in other words Nothing is f****d here dude, the dog is completely open to training that shows it that a down or stop leads to sucess , the bottom line is the pup only wants to get a bird in its mouth, that's its goal , once we know that we just set about encouraging behaviours that lead to that outcome, in time it will take no notice of anything that you don't encourage as prey , It only 10 months relax ✌️ Quote Link to post
the monkey 338
Stop panicking ,,,she's still a pup just put it behind you and start again with the stop whistle etc Go to proper gundog lessons or one to one sessions Quote Link to post
