Like a lite the finch was down to thread now I know it's way to early for the finch to be incondition . Question is would an should I let her nest up with canary cock or hold out ... cnuts gagging for it but in same light the finch was alert and tried to thread her....... finch cock filled all hens eggs last season

If it were me i'd let them go down,if the cocks treading them then he thinks he's in condition to and canaries breed ealier than natives usualy but i've had natives breed in febuary outside before now and they reared all the youngsters in the nest.If you are going to stop them then take the cock out compleatly and only put him back in when you want a nest or two,the goldie cock will or should searve all 3 hens though and many times i have bred pures and mules from simular trios in flights..

A pair of birds and that's any birds can fight to the death when one is in condition and the other isn't,chaffies, bullies and even goldies are buggers for it at times and that's why i allways had a couple of canary hens in my mixed aviary to take the pressure off the native hens as canary hens will come into condition and be willing partners before the native hens are.Bloody shame that delboy and hope it don't knock you back to much, one of the rotton things of this wonderful hobby of ours is when we learn a lesson it's usualy the hard way eh :cray: ...
