squab 2,875
as iv said before in 25 year iv only ever lamped with three other lads so what are the advantages of lamping alone, well for me none of that meeting up at certain times places etc only to get a no show for one reason or another,i go when i like where i like(ok within reason i suppose only having very limited permission lol) for as long as i like.any night dont matter to me never let work commitments get in the way of a night out but obviously im only going fairly local not covering hundreds of miles on a weekday although weekends dont matter. never been afraid to jump in and get hands on should the need arise, far less likely to get caught out anywhere,i got pocket fulls of excuses why i am where i am and never had a serious tug although close shaves here and there have put years on me lol.just couple things that spring to mind so what about the disadvantages........ theres lots...........i was lucky in the early days of going out with couple lads although you might not think it lol seen the slipping of dogs left right and center on anything and everything so to speak, mob handed hunts that usually ended with feck all caught, sometimes when a catch was made the cry from the owner of a particular dog of how HIS dog had made the catch would always get me chuckling must been watching different field than me but if they felt they needed the glory then let them have it. slipping a dog on a rabbit and proceeding to wait back at the van for 45 min till the owner managed to get the thing back on a slip, the yapping of a beddy/whip/grey in full cry as it ran off into the distance, dogs ragging rabbits till they good for nothing but soup, yep in the early days i knew what i wanted and it was none of this so on i went and trained my own exactly how i wanted it to be not to replicate anything id seen.dont get me wrong nothing fancy but no fecking about either. bad injurys was another thing i had to contend with, never had money to throw around at vets, not all fun and games this dog lark as you all know and iv had my fair share of shite over the years with no one to fall back on and help me out but iv struggled through in the main. another obvious thing is you dont get to see the different types working over the years that many of you have going out regular with other decent lads,iv had my fair share of dogs il be honest, some good some shite with a few lost along the way but the couple of decent cant fault them in any way types well id have to say very few and far between but i been lucky enough to own a couple. few things to mention but guess the list is endless in reality 5 Quote Link to post

jukel123 9,046
I always lamp on my tod. More atmospheric out there with just yourself and a howling gale. Time to think, contemplate, nobody moaning they've got to get home or twining about the cold. I like the sense of freedom, I can pack up early or stay out till dawn. Best of all is to get the Mrs to drop me off and then I make my own way home. No car to betray your location. Not a soul knows where I am . Great! The only downside is getting flashbacks to horror films, Sometimes I have to remind myself there's no ghosts, monsters etc. 12 1 Quote Link to post

Blueboybilly 164
I only ever go on my own. As jukel123 says; nobody winging about getting home or the cold etc. There is also something spectacular about just me and the dog sharing the experiences in the field. For me it is special that the dog and I working together, bonding and forging fond memories. However; one think that throws me every time is sheep coughing! 5 Quote Link to post

Mary 352
There was always stories told to us as kids of lone lampers encountering ghosts, animal ghosts, banshee, lampers being trapped in a field til daylight came because of fairy rings or paths, dogs refusing to run or chase in certain fields, all hair raising stuff for kids. I go alone btw, seeing is believing and I've never seen. 1 Quote Link to post
paulsmithy83 567
for me i prefer me and a mate just for ease of carrying rather then tumbling across fields dragging quarry still trying to lamp and hold the dog but i only go out with a very select few 1 Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
I've lamped in teams of lads in my youth and at the time it was fun but I'd not entertain it now.. One man & his dog, maybe a trusted pal. I went along with it initially as I had no dog & then as I knew no better.. There are pros and cons lamping or even walking out daytime alone.. Its down to personal preferences but these years on, I catch more gear compared to when there was a squad of us.. "Bagsy first slip" lol 1 Quote Link to post
