The "stopping Power" Of The .177 Cal.

Recommended Posts

I forgot to mention the "stopping power" of the .177 cal in the previous topic of the HW 100 kt being on form.

Lads, every single pigeon/ magpie took yesterday was with a heart/ lung shot and all vermin was dead "instantly" before they hit the ground ! For heart/ lung shots on Wood Pigeon or Corvid i find the .177 cal outstanding with instant despatch.

Yesterday the pigeons were landing on the sun drenched side of the tree i was shooting on, no fault of mine but my hide was in the only natural tree line available and i had to shoot through the the tree and branches, "threading shots" to the unaware pigeons.

So, again, the flat trajectory to thread the shots, coupled with shot placement gave good results.

One last thing i might mention is that every single bird had an "exit" wound and internally the pellet " destroyed" the vital organs.

Pellets used were Air Arms Fields 8.4 grain. (.177).
