grompz 705
just a question folks, would this cross be any good for hunting up and facing heavy cover like gorse and thick brambles, been seriously thinking about getting one,but on the other hand would a pure whippet or abedlington be better suited to this type of work, any of you guys use them for day time mooching,ie ferreting, ratting, and bushing.atb Quote Link to post

bedo 59
My whippet works cover but only when she knows or thinks theres something there better of with a terrier os spaniel x imo. Beddy or whippets are great little mooching dogs tho 1 Quote Link to post
mighty celt 996
my friend had a bedlington/whippet 18 years ago the only 1 i have ever seen work,it did lack in pace, but what a dog to drive cover and find game was unreal, loved fox would hunt them all day,and was dug to plenty of times was a true worker. 1 Quote Link to post
forest of dean redneck 11,769
Do the thicker coated beddy whippets get caught up in brambles or end up with lot of stuff in their coats when hitting the cover? Quote Link to post
squab 2,875
My wip x is a handy bitch for a mooch.she's never gonna get were a terrier can though she a nice little bitch but guess falls long way short of being a decent bushing dog, anything to big that has to belly crawl through tight bramble cover with their back legs splayed out behind them to enable it to push through the tightest of cover aint up to the job imo, although as you say handy little mooching tool atb,as said above cant fault the spaniel x terrier types, ideal for heavy cover Quote Link to post
