can you get a smooth coated norfolk lurcher because the man who i am thinking abot buying the dog is saying it is a smooth coat advice please am i being had.

A Norfolk lurcher is simply a term for a type of rough coated lurcher, usually lurcher to lurcher for generations, regardless of its breeding: read what Reload said again: you know it makes sense!!

I have never heard of a smooth coated Norfolk type, and that is all they are: a TYPE. Don't be fooled by fancy titles and seller's tales of hundreds of years of line breeding.

 

What sort of lurcher are you after anyway, or simply a dog to do the business? Contact me: I can always lay my hands on whatever you want. !!!

 

Seriously though, beware of the people that want to blind you with lurcher babble of how it is this and that etc. Decide what sort of dog you like, then sit down, do some research on the traits, faults, good points etc of that particular type. Then go and see as many as posssible of that sort before making up your mind.

Maybe you should be asking the breeder, regarding dogs in its make up and what the line can do work wise???? Dont jump in and buy a dog unless you are sure its what you want.

Mmmm Jeff Burrell isn't he that scruffy catweasel fellow that smells funny and talk bo****s. I've seen some of his Lurch, no no mongrels, as thats all they are. As for being in his family for 300 years He looks like he's been alive for 300 years though.

I dont mean to sound arsey its just my opinion(which aint worth much), but when buying a pup, maybe take your time and make sure you ask the seller all the right questions before parting with your cash, of course Mr Burrell, will prob give you all the right answers and about 2 hours of waffle too. He will tell you about the dogs in walshs lurchers and longdogs book, then he will tell you the dogs have been in his family for the last 300 hundred years then he will show you the picture of Colonel Custer with his dogs and he will claim there Smithfields..........good patter to sell pups, i know he tried to sell me one once.

 

Take you time getting a pup if you want good stock, it will pay dividends in the long run

 

I hope you know that smithfield collies have been extinct for the last couple hundred years.

 

Saying all this, I am sure the dog will catch some game for you, most will.

Very sound advice!.Norfolk and Smithfield are words that mean F A,,Id include Tumbler with them, a dog described as one of these may turn out a decent animal ,but it wont be any of those ,,its often just an excuse to jack up the price of a litter,caveat emptor!

My brother travelled from Northumberland to Norwich to buy a pup, so I suppose it was a Norfolk Lurcher !! I bought mine in Cramlington, so I suppose it's a Northumberland Lurcher !!! No such thing as a "Norfolk" or a "Smithfield"' just puppy pedlars conning people who know no better !!

I am goint to get my puppie tomoro a norfolk lurcher (smithfield breeding) can any one tell me what these dogs are like as i have never seen one run but i have hard that they are a good dog. are they really coliexgreyhounds. would ther dog before ban of corse have enough steam for a hare. put pic up of him soon.

 

The best (free) advice that I can give you is,..."Unless you have a predisposition towards owning a particular kind of running dog 'type' or a yen to be around a critter that pleases you visually,...perhaps THINK carefully about the actual quarry you want to capture and the geographical area that you intend to use the dog in'..

 

I say this because,..for me,.personaly,..the 'goal post has suddenly been moved',.and what I once required from a working partner is no longer needed...

Its a bit like last seasons 'must have' fashion accessory,..

 

Best to give such matters some serious thought,.just an opinion,.I could well be wrong...

It will be everything but the kitchen sink mate defo not a collie greyhound, But i am not saying a bitza is a bad thing, I have two Bitzas myself.

Smithfield aint been seen for hundreds of years.

 

Basically what you get is what you see I suspect a rough coated lurcher, dont believe the hype and the adverts.

 

Now if you want it for work ask about working traits and if there are pics, videos of the dog working or maybe if you can go and see the dogs in action out in the fiel.....?

maybe im dwelling on this subject a little to hard but could not help my self,looking on jeffs web site i noticed the bit no the lot about introducing huski blood,there is more there justifing that cross than all the rest of his site.when you log on it says jeffs training,stories,lineage ect there is nothing there but when trying a sales pitch that people have questioned he rips it off,not a con man my arse.
