Ridgeback In A Lurcher?

Recommended Posts

Gents, how common or likely would it be to see Ridgeback introduced into a lurcher line about 13 years ago?

The reason I ask is we rescued a Ridgeback at about 6 - 8 months old that was a nervous wreck an a bag of bones just about 13 years ago. Unfortunately we lost her to kidney failure middle of last year and she became the best dog anyone could ask for (after being on the verge of being put down at 5 years old due to a few aggressive outbursts. Luckily, but somewhat reluctantly after she got a good pasting and put on final warning she came good and was an absolute delight to be around.)

She wasn't a true Ridgeback but we could never work out what sort of cross she was, she had a small tuft rather than a pronounced ridge was very Sandy in colour rather than red and wasn't properly Ridgeback shaped. She was also extremely quick with a great prey drive. I'm beginning to wonder if she was the result of a lurcher Ridgeback cross of some description, maybe a litter bred for bigger, tastier things that bunnies!

There was some bred may be around that time for sure. Over in NE I think. Can mind been told of them. Some tale of a huntsman who owed the sire which was either full RB or a half cross. Never seen the dogs but was told by a reliable source.atb

Didn't you have one years back chid?

yes

She wasnt quite as broad across the shoulder as that to be honest so I don't think there was bull in her.

If you pinned each of her features to a breed you would say she had a Ridgeback, lab, gt dane and greyhound in her, but realistically that isn't gonna be in the slightest bit likely!
