Have any of you ever seen this film from 1988, it was set in Accrington in Lancashire ?

Think so,the lad bugs his father for a lurcher pup ,and I'm sure they say a Doberman gets shot and they think that's the beast,where it's really a black panther and the lad does see it.

Id never heard of it but ive just found it on youtube in 4 parts if your after watching it . If you search nature of the beast , accrington it will bring it up

This is the first topic i've started on this film mate, saw it years ago on the tele, was only shown the once that i know of, always liked films like that, and Kes, there was another one filmed on tyneside, but i cannot remember what it was called

Think the gamekeeper was set in yorkshire, and yes Ken Loach was the writer mate

Feeling his home life increasingly threatened, the beast comes to represent to him all that is wrong in Haverston. At last, desperate, Bill seeks to escape the social evil that stalks his family and community by hunting down the mysterious and metaphorically over-burdened Beast that roams the moors.

Director Franco Rosso examines the beleaguered state of modem Britain and in particular the disintegration of one Lancashire mill town family in the face of unemployment Yet despite the weight of the subject matter, the Nature of the Beast is a dramatisation of the Janni Howker children's novel which describes a teenager's desperate efforts to come to terms with a tragedy he scarcely comprehends.
