I was feeding 4 at one point, big diesel mixer thumping away all day, barrow, bucket and dump! Was also laying it on myself once I'd got ahead with the muck. Good times. Started with my Dad after a brief stint at college, didn't last long, had every tool in the bucket thrown at me for some reason or another, mainly cause he was constantly angry !! lol Went on with a general builder for a bit then, done all sorts, stone work, lime rendering, cob walls, laboured for the brickies, ran in concrete footing after work in the summer on barns etc, block paving (the boss was shagging the woman who's house it was, I would be out laying the paviers he'd be inside stuck in her whilst her husband was at work, dirty f****r lol).. it was f***ing hard work but I quite enjoyed it, shame he was a twat! Ended up in the steel game, fabricating and erecting then onto the roofing cladding etc off the back of it, all I've done for nigh on 20 years, don't know what was harder TBH, everything in the building game can be f***ing hard work!! lol 6 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
stevo79 569 Posted February 16, 2016 Report Share Posted February 16, 2016 Not on small builds no forks.pushing barrows thres mud,bumping up blocks,pug,etc.not many true hods about.I've had 15 labourers in 15 yrs most jack in when it gets tough.I totally agree, these big sites Hoddies do get looked after forklifts and silo muck. But small builds where no forks and everything run up the ladder that's proper graft knocking up for a 4 & 2 gang there's not a fencer in the world who could keep up with that. If anyone has dug a hole in Dundee they will know why. Digging through rock with a pinch is no fun. It reminds me of when I started on the sites there were plenty of lads with English accents but they were all Irish and had been in England for years. They were tough men who'd seen tough times. We became good mate he was in to cycling and rowing. Everything was 100mph, he'd been in price gangs all his life, I said to him one day "how old are you Carl" he said 72!!!!!!!
