NEWKID 27,048
Plastering can be a hard job as well on the sitesYeah man, same as labouring for plasterers on site. I was feeding 4 at one point, big diesel mixer thumping away all day, barrow, bucket and dump! Was also laying it on myself once I'd got ahead with the muck. Good times. Started with my Dad after a brief stint at college, didn't last long, had every tool in the bucket thrown at me for some reason or another, mainly cause he was constantly angry !! lol Went on with a general builder for a bit then, done all sorts, stone work, lime rendering, cob walls, laboured for the brickies, ran in concrete footing after work in the summer on barns etc, block paving (the boss was shagging the woman who's house it was, I would be out laying the paviers he'd be inside stuck in her whilst her husband was at work, dirty f****r lol).. it was f***ing hard work but I quite enjoyed it, shame he was a twat! Ended up in the steel game, fabricating and erecting then onto the roofing cladding etc off the back of it, all I've done for nigh on 20 years, don't know what was harder TBH, everything in the building game can be f***ing hard work!! lol
stevo79 569
Not on small builds no forks.pushing barrows thres mud, bumping up blocks, pug, etc.not many true hods about.I've had 15 labourers in 15 yrs most jack in when it gets tough.I totally agree, these big sites Hoddies do get looked after forklifts and silo muck. But small builds where no forks and everything run up the ladder that's proper graft knocking up for a 4 & 2 gang there's not a fencer in the world who could keep up with that. Like already been said the drop like flys.?
mackem 26,174
The average 9-5 joe spends just over 2000 hours a year at work, that's a helluva lot of time to spend doing something most folks don't enjoy.
Wales1234 5,489
Think the worst part of my job is that it's for the council putting kitchens in for people for free who really don't appreciate it and usually got something to moan about its f***ing free ! Don't get me wrong most people are absolutely great and are really nice people be we get a good few who have been arse holes to us Also being a bone profit company none the bosses really give a shit don't order right materials or don't really give a shit if we are working or not
Qbgrey 4,067
Roofers are grafters,I've ran tiles up all day, fuking kills me going up battens.standing on a 45 degree pitch roof all day is painfull.when I was hodding back in the day I'd make a long tall double scaff board ramp, almost over half way up ladder, then run up it then just climb s few rungs and I was up.used a Hod for pug too no fukin bucketing it up.

stevo79 569
I agree building trades a tough old game to be in, but let's face sparkys and plumbers are hardly builders. Plumbing is an easy job once you've mastered it expecially now it all push fit.
Lab 10,979
on site in England lab they get the site labourers to do the fencing pal.... ?.....when I was learning my trade I had brickies offering me a job. If anyone has dug a hole in Dundee they will know why. Digging through rock with a pinch is no fun. Anyway your a plasterer.....you shouldn't be on here talking about hard work...??
neil cooney 10,416
Can anyone relate to this song ? It reminds me of when I started on the sites there were plenty of lads with English accents but they were all Irish and had been in England for years. They were tough men who'd seen tough times. Enjoy.
jukel123 7,957
Building workers and the like, have bodies well fecked before retirement age. Those involved in hard physical graft should get their pension ten years earlier.I'm not in a hard physical job, but I have friends whose bodies are prematurely aged/damaged by relentless graft. darbo 4,774
Do sparks only work on houses? Plenty of heavy work in bad conditions in heavy industry worked on many furnaces in the glass making industry hot enough to make your head boil.
