frankel 2,123
One of the best dogs I've seen hunt, day or night was a lurcher x collie. Took big numbers, and was game for everything! 1 Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
Had quite a few Collie based lurchers,...in their most basic form,...they are invariably physically limited,...but,..if you have the same mindset as this most primitive of all the hunting dogs,...I find they do offer something that the other hybrids don't,....but,.by the same token,...they can be difficult to handle.. ...It is a foolish mistake to believe that, due to their reputed intelligence and tractability,...that collie crosses are easy to handle,...because in reality (if you want to use them for a bit more than a mere running dog)...they sure ain't.. Iv given mine some right bollockings in past but he's not as bad as I thought he would be. My next x is 3/4 grey 1/4 border collie, no beardy. See what the difference will be. Find beardy are abit sulky/stubborn. And know people who got Alex dogs said same and advised me to go border. Fella I know has worked beardy, beardy border like mine n yours and borders. He prefers borders by far. Says more responsive etc.My dog nearly got spoilt from electric fence aswell mate, horrible stuff. Quote Link to post

Half crosses will probably throw more sensitive but there are also benefits to half crosses too Edited March 5, 2016 by CraignTod Quote Link to post

Just my bull X bitch is chilled out and loves her work always gives 100% if she was taller and long would be better so I put 3/4 grey 1/4 bull over her and have a 12 week old bitch here and she's a beauty and full of herself so time will tell if she's half the bitch her mother and father are I will be happy 1 Quote Link to post
