Putting A Sling On A Shotgun

Recommended Posts

I want to put a sling on my single barrel Baikal .410 with synthetic stock.

I'm not bothered about putting the stud in the stock as I've done it with synthetic stocks before, but what do I use for the front? Would it be one of those barrel bands or is there a better option these days?

Ffs it's John Wayne...?

Don't put a sling on it. Few things I watched out for on shoot day which made you mind your head..guns with cheap wellies, cartridge belts and slings on shotguns...????

I'm not sure how much you have to work with on the front stock, but I put a stud in the fore end plastic of my Magtech 7022.

Obviously, thought went into the precise position, and I also knocked up a long rectangular metal washer to sit snugly internally in the stock and help spread the weight/stress. Internally the whole lot was then imbedded in Evo-Stick, Sticks Like Sh*t.

If your front plastic stock either doesn't offer this opportunity, or simply isn't man enough to handle it, then it could be a barrel band!

I'm not worried about physically putting a stud on the forend as such. I am more worried about how easily shogun forends come off. I guess it should be ok though.

I had a shotgun over my shoulder last week for a couple of miles and boy, was it handy. I'd borrowed the keepers when he had to get back from an earth we were looking at. Came in handy having that sling on and walking the two miles back.

A sling is very handy when doing more walking than shooting, I have one on my A303 foxing shotgun.

As for your single, a barrel band is the only way to get the front point in the right place, if it's in the 'wrong'

place (ie the fore end) the gun will swivel around unless you hold the sling, making the sling more trouble than it's worth.

Also try carrying the gun on the sling upside down, i.e. muzzle downwards, this usually very comfortable.

And by the way I wouldn't turn up on my pheasant syndicate with a sling gun, cartridge belt and cheap

wellies either, (nor a semi-auto), got to keep standards up what! what!
