Bolting A Few For The Dogs...

Thought it was time to put a little post up,,as it's been a while..

 

Saturday or Sunday sees me heading north for a days bolting with vin ,,,I leave work at 8 am so by the time we have got on the tops it's usually 11 am so not much time as we have to leave by 3 ,,but it's better than nothing...

 

Usual M.O for us ,,a pair of hob ferrets each,,vin has his two dogs and I've got my youngster,,,we split up,,but within view of each other,,about 100 yard or so just to stop the dogs running in on each other's warrens..

 

My first little warren ,,just a 3 hole affair produced just the one bolt which Bonnie took after a nice run,,just as it tried to get to ground..

 

Next warren two quick bolts,,both caught a yard from the holes,,then a miss in to the next little set,,which was only a few yards from the warren I was on,,,hob in squeeling could be heard,,,a quick look with the carrot and it was 3 foot,,,leave it ten mins,,and drop my other hob in another warren a few yards away...he bolts one which Bonnie takes ,,the hobs on another,,which is being dragged to an entrance hole,,hand in and I pull it out,,,,nothing else in...

 

Back to to the other hob,,,who was still on his kill,,,,so out with the spoon and ten mins later I had the very dead bunny...

 

We move on in to the next field ,,which is a mix of grass and heather,,,a rabbit jumps and Bonnie is on it,,it makes to a hole in the wall,,Bonnie jumps the wall,,,as the rabbit comes out the other side,,she streight on it,,and makes a nice catch and retrieve over the wall..

 

We walk on and Bonnie is marking a burry,,ferret in and a quick bolt and its nailed as it leaves the hole,,just a few feet from me,,,as where stood waiting for the next one,,a stupid rabbit comes running up the field,,Bonnie sees it and has a nice run ,,with results in a catch and retrieve ,,,another Minuit goes goes by and the bitch is follow the action below,,then she dives in to a hole and drags a rabbit out,,,

 

The next two warrens produce only a rabbit each one of which is missed and the second one caught,,,time is now getting on and a signal to vin to head back to the motor,,,I get a lovely mark on a little set that produces 3 more rabbits,,,one of which was the best run of the day,,,a real little cracker of a race,,

 

A quick pic back at the motor,,and get packed up because the weather was horrible,,blowing a gale all day you could hardly stand up in it....

1st warren I put the Hobs in a rabbit jumped out and into the dogs mouth within 20 seconds.

 

yes we use hobs I don't keep any gills at all these days.. After lots of trail and error in all shape and types/sizes.
