I have a policy with my dogs when coursing if they can see it and its in the same county it gets slipped on then its down to the dog if it gets on it or not, Many lads wonder what Ive slipped on , the dogs tug you know they have sighted and they get slipped, they know the game better than we do and they have got the pace to get on a hare usually gets its ears back when the dogs on it.. As said matches nowadays off the 4th lace hole suits most of the coursing men like thats their choice but certainly doesnt include sport in my opinion. Seen Tony B Sonny slipped 300 yds at 9 years old got on and battered it for 3 mins then it went to ground. All down to the dog and old puss on the Day.

I've had 5 minute runs from kick ups and missed them and given 300 to 400 yard slips and had quick kills, it's the type of hare that will test your dog out not the amount of law you give, saying that I wouldn't like to give a 300 to 400 yard slip on mr right then the dog really got its work cut out, some top hares need 2 or 3 minutes of running before the dog even looks like it's starting to get its hare under any degree of control, then it gets dragged out to a battle of attrition, these are the runs I like to see a good strong hare and a good long run, you've got to admire the running capabilities of a top notch hare

A good hare on its own territory on the day will out run many a good dog.

Any hare that gets killed in under 1 minute is a duffer in my opinion, yet some lads will start shouting from the roof tops when there dogs get a quick kill screaming what a dog, surely they must know it's a bad hare, or if it is from the dog being such a good killer why don't they kill every hare that quick, which never happens, it baffles me the mentality of some people

are you talking of 3/400 yrd slips on a hare on the run or is the hare just sitting up at 3/400 not aware of dog coming at her

your not going to spot one pressed down at 3/400 yds unless your scoping usually they will be on the move.not ears back as said most go when the dogs closed on them.

the hare would have to be on the run at that distance for the dog to see it I don't think they would be able to see a hare just sitting there at that distance, but I know what you mean a lot of hare will not start to motor properly before the dogs get within around 50 yards from a big slip
