Is it OK to use straw or hay as bedding or shredded paper?

Ive only ever used straw or hay in 35 years of owning ferrets,,,

Stay away from hay which has not been extracted for bedding as that can cause resp problems best to use straw or paper

I only ever use shavings , I stay away from straw , hay as if its no treated the hollow stems can harbour pests and shredded pappers bulky to get rid of when its wet which is every other day just now

Straw ,shredded paper or just wood shavings.can even get waxed shredded paper from greyhound stores.not much need for straw in the summer mate,shavings only.

Couple of old blankets or towels.. they won't usually mess in the bed area an it's easier to find hidden food.

I use hay bedding or shreded paper for my ones with a old t shirt during the winter, shavings and little paper in the warmer months.

I'd stay away from straw can hide ticks and pests in the hollow stems

I use shavings in the run ,,,,can't for the life of me see why you would use shavings in the sleep area,,,surly they can't make a nest in it,,nothing to bury in to?

I've hung an old fleece jumper off the bedding box floor with some string and crocodile clips (like a hammock,but tied at all 4 corners)... They love it ! and it keeps the hutch cleaner and tidy with more space.

 

I'm soft as shite with my pugs and treat them like babies.. but they reward me ten fold.

I use shavings in the runs only a inch or so deep as im cleaning these out daily but in the sleeping compartments where I only clean it out once a week I pile the shavings in and with feathers ect bonding them together they do build little nests are are warm enough as they often pull them out into the runs and sleep there
