Behind With The Cull

Recommended Posts

Had a month of stalking after the death of a great friend ...but needs must and this after noon see me out on what was almost a spring day , warm and sunny light but changeable wind ..there was deer almost every where , in fact to many to be able to move anywhere other than at a snails pace ,with a small bunch laying against a hedge I had a fairly straight forward stalk coming down from above and to the left , almost parallel to the hedge they were laying against, only tricky bit was to get across to my right and up a small ledge without giving the game away ...this done , albeit with wet knees and hands I looked for a likely beast ...this wasn't as straight forward as I expected , three doe's were laying in bracken with no clear path for a shot , two of the three calves were also tucked to far back with strands of bracken not giving a 100% clear view . The one youngster that was in the clear was asleep , my hope was the doe would stay around long enough for me to get her as well , I took the shot , about 80m , the calf never moved , the doe's where gone in almost the time it took me to recycle the next round ...never even looked back ..the rest of the afternoon was spent bumping other groups with the nothing to show for it ..back at it the weekend post-81636-0-40948200-1454614892_thumb.jpeg

Sorry to hear you've lost a friend. As far as convalascence goes time out stalking is as good a place as any to get things perspective. Good stalk and glad to see you back.[/quote
