Properly conducted terrier work has never in the last 200 years been in a better position than it is now... it has hard working dedicated federations with many individual WTC all over the U.K. & E

If it wasn't for Barrie Wade and his team we'd have no terrier work

Not everyone who uses thermal is an idiot. I just meant i know keepers up here who use it and also normal lads that have it and theyre out with it 4-5 times a week shooting everything they come across. Fair play if birds are going missing then the culprit needs dealing with, but being out every couple of nights for the sake of it IMO is not on.

Fox control for a keeper is not sporting it's a job! Sitting out all night every night for 2 weeks after a lamp shy fox in -5 is not fun !And thermal [still requires field craft!] Just ups ur chances and with a hill fox eating grouse I'll take everything that helps m

in what way?

requires field craft, I don't shoot ,don't know one end of gun from other, but my son took me out with night vision ,it seemed v easy, not much field craft, I might add only shooting rabbits on this occasion,

As in you still have to use field craft to get the right direction of the wind with out it scenting you! Last year when snow was on I saw I fox every night for 5 nights with thermal couldn't get near it for a shot tracked it for 7 days on hands and knees thru forestry blocks losing it when the snow had blown or melt dug it on the 7th day in a rabbit hole with fresh snow

fair play to you, that sounds like dedication, like I said I don't shoot just assumed WRONGLY that thermal would be a piece of piss, you should have pm me, could have nipped up with a few hounds lol , atb.

They don't use fieldcraft in my area, they drive the road in there jeeps with lamp and gun out the window, kill and leave it lying there and on to the next field, they don't have farmers permission or are on a quest for anybody else, I would never criticise or pass judgement on anybody's sport but surly this isn't sport. I've also seen this done with hares, terrible carry on.

I'm not perfect and not really great to put a picture up but it a dead Fox, you see worst looking one's always on a road, and in times when a vixen has young somewhere.but I get no problem, and have permission, hunting on my own places and if someone was with me, no hassle, not like it used to be in places where it was you and a mate, farmer sound and then turning up with all kinds, and stranger's on his land and all the rest of it.the antis are I think I read having a meeting's and bringing hunting into the organisation of theirs,. The some and I done it myself, a small bit but nothing I can recall really, was and are well hunting getting banned kill everything, fkn antis, but not into hunting myself for that, and only hunt or dig for the pest control, and having the true connection to the dogs, quarry and land, nature is tough and we are human beings, man wasn't told the stuff when he came out the cave, and the a awful lot worse things going on in the world, like dickheads killing everything to the numbers game,

I think you will find you could teach a monkey to lamp foxes with the gear you lads have for shooting. i'm not knocking you but I have done a bit of shooting also. we never had the night vision but it was very easy indeed to clear an area of vermin. if I was to write a book on fox control for dummies. shooting with all the toys, would be the prefared method. it is that simple and that efficient its scary. not knocking you shooters but lets say it as it is eh. there are fair amount of foxes around us. more town foxes than ive seen for a long time but few being found to ground. mostly laying up top . this is high ground mostly so don't know why ? ive a youngster to get started yet so not so good

My mates lad has gotten in with a keeper running 2big estates not far from me,he tried the lurcher and terrier game but was found wanting so bought a rifle, top of the range night vision/IR the full hit, shooting up to 9 fox a night,he now has the bug big time and is shooting anywhere he can get permo on,he shoots large numbers over 12 months,so that shows you how easy it is, Plucky
