tote 856
i wouldnt buy a lurcher pup this time of year... think about it this way; the bitch carrys the pups for 9wks then another 8wks rearing them.. when exactly is this bitch working? summer? buy a summer pup and have the better weather for the pup to be either housetrained or for it to get used to being in kennels and whilst it wont be much use for next september it will be nearly 18mths (give or take couple months) for the following season! "When is the bitch working"? Surely if your breeding from a bitch she'll have had numerous seasons under her belt before you'd think of breeding from her? That's when she'd have been working. And if you have a yearly breaker that comes in season Sept/Oct are you suggesting she shouldn't be bred from? I've brought pups in during spring, summer, autumn and winter and never found much difference tbh, they all get started when they're ready, just because it's the start of the season doesn't mean you've got to start the pup off. 3 Quote Link to post

I've only got the one. Must admit I'm struggling to see how a summer litter is less labour intensive than a winter one, I've only ever bred the one litter and they were born on 22nd of October and everything was straightforward, had no issues at all and they certainly weren't labour intensive. 1 Quote Link to post

lurchers 2,860
Ive only ever bred 1 litter and was 13th november 2002 and advertised them for £50 and still had dickheads on the phone wanting them cheaper.there was heating on in the shed and the pups were fed fresh minced rabbit, meat and meal 3 times a day and the bitch was out lamping when the pups were 8wks old.so sh didnt realy miss the season there she still had 2mths and done ok out of it.so i think you can buy a pup anytime of the year and still do ok work wise for your bitch. low plains drifter 10,649
One of the reasons the lurcher game is shagged is because of the fools who buy lurchers off strangers and random breeders and then complain the dogs shite and then ends up on the merry go round. I know if i wanted another running dog I could phone half a dozen folk I've met through this site and be put in contact with a good prospect. Why the fcuk anybody would even bother checking out pre loved or random adverts from somebody you don't know is beyond me, buy from places like that you deserve all you get. There are any amount of well bred litters advertised on tinterweb, if a hammerhead, or a 5 minute wonder gets their mitts on a dog regardless of how well it runs, it's being sold, swapped, or whatever before long 2 Quote Link to post
