HedgeCrawler 224
It was an alright day so went again today to the same warrens as last week .Took the same hob as last time and 2 jills also took the dog along to give him some experience. The first warren had plenty of fresh digging and activity but the hob still wouldn't go down.Left it a while but he still wouldn't go so took him out then collared up the albino jill and she went straight down, after 15 or so minutes came the first bolt and a rabbit with deformed teeth and one long front tooth.Nothing else bolted from this warren so we moved along the hedge to a small 3 holer and got one bolt but the net didn't close properly and the rabbit was gone. The final warren was much better, the albino jill worked well with 2 bolts in quick succession. All in all a good trip and no digs which is a bonus. 3 Quote Link to post
Chicken_man 1,651
Well done mate queer looking rabbit that. How did the dog take to it this time? Was it showing much interest? How did it react when the rabbits bolted/netted? Did it chase the runner? Atb Quote Link to post
HedgeCrawler 224
The dog was very good showed a lot of interest in the holes and netted rabbits.Had a small run on the slipped one but didn't get close. He's definitely getting better with marking and being around the ferrets. Chicken_man 1,651
Keep taking him. The more he goes the better. Let him use his nose, learn to read him. A good marking dog is worth it's weight in gold. Atb 2 Quote Link to post

Chicken_man 1,651
I ruined a collie as a lad by saying good lad to it everytime it marked, Lurchers can be ruined, but full collies need extra attention paid to them imo, but when they working with you, they a joy to have ferretingDo you still have one? My collie picked up marking fast.Atb Quote Link to post
Chicken_man 1,651
Them pups sound like handy tools. My collie will smash through any cover also. I've always said they would do anything if given the chance. But not all folk like them. Atb 1 Quote Link to post

HedgeCrawler 224
This one's half springer so slightly smaller than pure collies.Uses his nose well and is exellent at finding game in woods and cover. 1 Quote Link to post
