Interesting, that 95% of the people on here that slag doberman's off, wouldn't think twice about having a fat, useless, small, cloddy 1st x bull terrier. Strange, and I've seen a couple of more than useful doberman x's

I misread that and thought at first you'd said he'd had 62 lurchers and the dobie cross was the best one he ever had

Good move there Gaz getting two seeing as they're only half the dog they used to be.

Did you hear the one about the fella who went to the health food shop for ginkgo biloba ?

I couldn't possibly Roy, you'd be far better off with a Dobie cross, didn't you know they are such a proven, popular cross they'd piss all over that fat, usless binlicker in the photo..!

I don't discount any cross ,as you will always get a few of any cross that will work to a degree ,if the lad that owns it puts enough time into it .

And usually if it's one that's left of field the owner may put more time in to disprove doubters.

But personally I'd possibly start from 2 breeds that have proven results than try to reinvent the wheel.

But saying that I doubt I'd want a 1st generation 1/2 cross of most breeds except maybe a bull cross of the right stamp

Dobermans rarely come up on this forum so I'll take the opportunity to do a little bragging on mine. Took these pics of my 5.5 year old male Doberman over the weekend after 18+ miles mountain biking. That was the single longest ride I've ever done with my dogs, and the next day they were already running around on our ~4 mile hike like we hadn't done anything the day before. My other dog is a 3 year old female English Springer Spaniel. Whoever said Pointers, not Springers, are the big running bird dogs never told her.

Don't have much experience running dogs on bunnies, etc. other then the ~10 times I've take my Doberman out a night and run around with a flashlight like a fool, but I'd like to think if I could get him in front of some game he has the speed to make the catch. He certainly has the drive.

Love living vicariously through all your stories! Keep it up.

-Michael

I remember being told a story years ago about the lad from the Boys from Brazil film actually matching one of his pure Dobermans against a famous hare dog.The dobie lost of course but his owner smirked as he handed over the cash to the owner of the winning dog. When he walked away to his car with his dog and the bag of money the dobie owner just punched his fist into his hand and his dobie killed the man and his dog and retrieved the money to his owner(who was still smirking). The man who told me this had no reason to lie.

Sounds like a Tarantino film

It`s a true story pal.I think there`s some of his blood still about, evil b*****ds they were. lol

Not all 1st cross bull terriers are cloddy,or fat for that matter .

Also they have their place and work that suits.

My mistake, I meant using a fat, cloddy etc bull terrier, not a bull x lol
