LaddyLurcher 261
One of my permissions up Yorkshire is comprised of a few farms spread out around the arable land, this year rats have colonised around the farms more than usual...I shot 19 just walking round with air rifle and lamp and saw a lot more! I am going back Sunday with a few guys, smokers and terriers, was wondering should I take my lurchers along for the day out? I wouldn't of thought it would do then any harm. Anyone used lurchers on rats wich caused negative effects in the dogs behaviour? There already hard mouthed so that don't bother me! Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
Ratting shouldn't make a lurcher hard mouthed unless it was started (entered) on them. Some lurchers make bloody good ratters but if they are green to the game it can play merry hell with toes and stoppers around a farm yard. Lets face it, they just aint as robust as terriers for this game and they can get put out of action. So it would all depend on risk assessment and damage limitation but then i think you know the score already... Quote Link to post

Hands of Stone 154
Make sure you put a bale or something on and silage bale spikes that are about... when the farmers leave them down they are about the same height as a lurchers chest, and always seem to be left at the worst places... mattyg 1,862
If it's got a head at the front, tail at the back and a leg on each corner then it'll catch rats. Love a bit of ratting the a good pack of dogs. Enjoy! Matt 4 Quote Link to post
