Shotgun Certificate Granted With Previous With Criminal Record

Give them a ring if it's not in the notes Dyktos,

From what I remember, it is only convictions received since last grant or renewal.

Definitely best to ring them and check but I'm almost certain that's the case.

Rang them and they said put all you can remember lol

They cashed the cheque this week so looking good :D

I took a copy of this application to keep in my gun cabinet.

Cheers, D.

Hopefully it'll be guns you'll be keeping in the cabinet before long ;)

The police take the view (quite rightly) that nobody is an angel, especially in their younger years, but also take the view that if a man has had a number of years, without convictions, and has a job/h

You really do have to put everything done..no matter how small. I renewed in 2014 and I put down no convictions. When I got my visit the FO asked me directly if this was correct. I said yes. She then

Drink Drive is hardly an SP30, is it any wonder the police take a slightly dim view of drink/firearms?

You know when your saying over 3 years . Do you mean 3 years and over . Dose any body know any one or the chances of overturning a lifetime ban . How long you would have to wait to appeal it etc . I'm asking because my mate got three years for fighting and got a life time ban . So any info would be great . He said he didn't mind getting a 5 year band but not life . So he was going to wait three year and appeal . Cheers

There's no minimum time before he can appeal, but the chances of an appeal being granted would, in my view, increase with more time spent with a clean record.

Three years is quite a long time for that sort of offence these days, so it must have been pretty serious. This will obviously be a deciding factor as well.

The only other option I guess would be to appeal the conviction and/or sentence.

He'd been out of trouble for 12 year . So he'll be able to do it again his sister was being beaten up and raped so he had a motive . Even know it isn't right in the laws eyes . He's not bothered about having a licence just doesn't want the ban hanging over him .

Very interesting thread . I have to say, from my limited knowledge, it really seems to depend on where you live ( County constabularies ) , and the individual dealing with your application . And how long you've had an FAC.

It also seems to make a difference whether it's a renewal or an application ( and that includes if you forgot to renew ) .

From my own point of view , and referring to an earlier poster regarding mental health problems , I was foolish enough to allow myself to be prescribed low level drugs for depression many years ago - I ditched them after six months , it hasn't affected my renewals in the last fifteen years ( currently due in June , been confirmed ) .

Just to play Devil's Advocate ..............How many of us would want to live next door to to a middle-aged man who had served 2 years in prison for drink-driving and road-rage................and who had now been granted a shotgun certificate because he had kept his head down for a few years.
