carp king 155
Funniest part is they are just fun shows and some folk pay a pound win say champion lurcher terrier or whatever at say Welsh game fair then call there dogs champions lol I don't understand working shows to be honest but again they are just a bit of fun but folk do take it serious and put extra pound notes when breeding a litter and advertising them as champion sired/ dam'd which in fact is fiction. If folk are competitive about showing they should enter kc shows at least they can be recognised champions. Just my opinion lads can't be arsed with showing myself Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
I enjoy a day out at a show, for the same reasons others do. Thing is, i live in a part of the world that has a number of good working dog shows, run by clubs that activley seek out working judges wherever possible BUT the difficulty is always FINDING those judges because they are few and far between! I have a photo somewhere of me and Treehands jumping into the breech to judge because we were let down at the last minute, it should never happen but sadly it does. Thankfully we did a fair old job that day lol. If working dog clubs are going to run sound working dog shows, then working dog men need to step up and both judge and show.... Ya gotta be in it to win it fellas! Quote Link to post
carp king 155
Ya right bosun mate but what actually is a working judge Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Ya right bosun mate but what actually is a working judgeI should have said working dog man! The type of judge clubs should seek are those who are known to work their own dogs and would try to seek out and place workers (as they are seen to be..)Its a difficult and often unpleasant task, most judges would probably tell you that they usually have chosen their top three the minute they step in the ring, because there ain't no exact formular to this, its simply personal choice and should always be seen as that BUT lets be dead honest, if that judge is a working dog man, the chances of those three being working dogs rises significantly. I said "I've a yard full of terriers that can't be spanned, that would make me a hypocrite." Fair enough they said. 3 Quote Link to post

bryanm45 787
Well there's a thing, "the devil within" what you worried about, I think get yourself and your dogs to these shows and tell them what you do and why you do it, let people understand what goes on, how the law makes you jump through hoops for pest control, once people understand they might sympathise with what you are trying to achieve, I think once people see a half eaten sheep that had got stuck on its back still alive might be something to stick against anti's, just a different view on it. 2 Quote Link to post
