I had this problem with my lad a couple of years back, the only answer is to keep hunting on all the car insurance comparison web sites, or wait until you get older, or move to a cheaper insurance area or buy a very old and very low powered car! (Oh yes, or get a sex change, seems the girls are often cheaper than lads)

Its all a pain, and there are not many good reasons for getting older, Insurance is the only one I can think of, my lad now pays about £1600 for his 9 year old escort and I pay just a bit over £200 for a brand new 4x4!

Try adding your mother on to the policy, doesn't matter that she will never drive the car. Price will possibly drop by as much as 25%.

When I was your age the thing to do was to buy a cheap brand new car with free insurance. After one year they then gave you full no claims assuming you had been accident free. I think they have caught on now and you have to be 21 for free insurance.

Insurance is weird shop around. I changed cars from one worth £1300 to one worth £20000 and my insurance went down, even though the insurance group went up.

Take your pass plus, buy something with an engine smaller than 1.4, add someone like your mum or dad as a named driver and keep scouting for quotes.

Young lads are, apparently more likely to have serious accidents than any other drivers so until you are 25 and have some no claims under your belt it'll be more expensive. Something like a Corsa, 106, Metro, Fiesta etc are cheap to insure, just don't put some silly body kit on them... :whistling::tongue2:

Had this with my son a few years ago.The companies see you as a high risk until aged 21 regardless of the age or power of the car. There is no easy answer. As usual it's the scum who don't bother getting insured who have the easy ride.A £50 fine if they get caught. :wallbash:

My mates wife was hit by an uninsured smackhead and it has devastated them financially as well as knowing the other driver won't pay any fines imposed.

Get on confused.com mate I did and the difference between the cheapest and dearest is amazing, Quinn normally comes up cheapest. 3rd party only was more expensive than 3rd party f&t on my escort van which i got insured on for about £500 when some of the bigger companies had said they woudn't insure me as it was too high an insurance bracket or something.
