Maybe just no rabbits at home then. Ferrets can also sense a dead end without actually moving all the way down a burrow using their sense of smell. Perhaps that could be the reason. Unfortunately I can't keep a dog, so choosing occupied warrens is always a chore. Freshly kicked dirt, droppings and fur are great indicators but it doesn't always guarantee a rabbit and it can lead to a bit of frustration if you've wasted a morning on empty burrows. What I often do is just stroll quietly until I see a rabbit entering a system, then you know for sure there's at least one down there and that can often mean more. Then you can know for sure if the ferret is behaving on initial scents or not. Quote Link to post
