HedgeCrawler 224
Went out ferreting for the first time today, was abit of a bust but enjoyable none the less.I had originally intended to take my 2 jills out but after checking them noticed both are in season so instead took one of the hobs up to a patch behind the house. There was plenty of activity, fresh digging and droppings. After getting the nets down and collar on the hob he entered the first hole only to come out again immediately. This continued for a good half hour with him not going more than a foot into each hole so after 2 hours on this warren we moved on to a small bank were the same thing happened with the hob not going far enough into the warren so at the end of the day the bag was a zero rabbits.Still a great day and will defiantly be out again soon. ferret110 27
sounds like the hob is scared to go to ground Quote Link to post
Chicken_man 1,651
Had a youngster did that today. Will let it mature and take it out next season. Atb Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,412
The holes could be empty, the hob could be more interested in looking for jills or it could be just inexperienced. Hopefully it's one of those and not just a useless ferret that's scared of the dark. Could you not have tried one of your others? Quote Link to post
Chicken_man 1,651
I popped an adult in and got a.bolt. This one is just a youngster, so no rush. HedgeCrawlers others were in season I believe. Atb Quote Link to post

HedgeCrawler 224
I thought there was a higher risk of infection by working jills that are in season? Quote Link to post

Jamie m 668
Just not with a hob for obvious reasons ? Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,412
I've found with ferrets that are in season some will work and some completely mess about. Quote Link to post

ZeusPolecat 185
How old is the hob? How much experience does he have? Might just need time. It can be a little off putting setting up lots of nets for nothing. Keep at it Quote Link to post
