Rez 4,961
I decided to get myself out for the afternoon today... I was over at a local perm on a roost shoot on Wednesday evening but didn't take my phone, shame really as I had a good old bag, so thought Id go today to another permission Ive shot at for years now and 'just go'. No real idea of what game Id target. I took along my HM and my 97, obviously, and set about the usual routine... targets at various distances first, then have a wander round. Its sounds a bit wet but I have too take my 97 and shoot that first on every outing... I just have to god dammit! Its kinda like a warm up hour I suppose. It was as before, spot on and I soon got bored. So I extended the range a bit today to 40 yards as shown in a previous YouTube flick, and soon got bored of that too. So I set off and took some pictures of the permission, no real location walk through, just as I walked took a picture, walked, took a picture. I headed to a tree I like the look of and thought Id make a semi hide for future occasions. So I did. I set up shop there for an hour or two and bagged two greys and a 'pie out of the tree, but my phone had snuffed it by the bird, so I buggered off home. My usual kit... My usual routine... My usual walk over to a smallish wooded area. Land owners tractor shed. This other wooded area runs along my left hand side as I walk up the track. Good rabbiting ground I shoot over in the summer months. Over the tracks. This is the area I was heading too. More to follow. 6 Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
Permission runs down there but I havent even had a look yet. Got the rifle out of its slip about now. Wondered if there might of been a rabbit or two, but no joy. I did see quite a few on leaving though, but rifle was packed up. Another day. My destination... Bit of a sitty tree that gets some usage during cold sunny days. Quick makeshift hide. It'll do. Set up at the base if the Oak above. The view. The result. Bar one magpie. Tough little sods are tree rats... one took two shots to the brian box, and still would not let go of the branch he was on. Respect. 8 Quote Link to post
chrismdd 787
Looks like a nice varied range of terrain you've got there. Must be plenty of varied opportunities throughout the changing seasons. Quote Link to post

Must be plenty of varied opportunities throughout the changing seasons. Alright Chris. Yeah, to be honest, its so big Ive always just stuck to the areas I know well... but I must branch out a bit more. It basically a 10 acre, I think, working land and the owners grows bits an bobs for tescos or something, but its got an industrial side too, the shed and so on over the other side, but I find theres more dog walkers over that bit and I dont want a dressing down, even though they shouldn't be there Get back on your hunting posts man, aint seen your stories for a while. 1 Quote Link to post

Hopefully going to get out with the S410 again soon. Been busy with the ferreting and also beating every Saturday. Also neglected my river fishing at the moment, that's the problem with this time of year and when you've got a young family to keep happy. Well last day beating next Saturday so things should get easier, having said that there's some good cod coming off Chesil down here at the moment and I feel tempted to drown some lugworms. 1 Quote Link to post

just-A-snap 1,269
Plenty of time to get familiar and to make your way around the farm Rez. If it was always predictable on the hunt would it not be as boring as watching paint dry? Is it not the name of the game to get the old ticker pumping and to go home hopefully feeling good? All the best Edited January 23, 2016 by just-A-snap Quote Link to post

If it was always predictable on the hunt would it not be as boring as watching paint dry? Is it not the name of the game to get the old ticker pumping and to go home hopefully feeling good? All the best I suppose it would yes. But the wildlife doesn't make it boring. I'm not experienced enough to find fieldsports predictable just yet god if I knew that rabbit would be round the corner, or the pigeon at the top of a tree, it wouldn't be worth doing. The old ticker still goes, even when I think it's an easy shot. 2 Quote Link to post

To be honest it's the only rifle I do put away for the trek back to the car, there is no way I'm leaping over two barbed wire fences with no where to put it, I would be mightily pissed off if I dropped it scaling a f***ing fence so just hang my slip on the fence with the rifle inside. Recognise the nato jacket? served me well. Had it on for the last part of the foray, over my thermal. Gets sodding cold... Just sat. 1 Quote Link to post
