.22 Bullet Test

Recommended Posts

Have been itching to get out but after putting the Sidewinder back on the Anschutz 1417 it needed a daylight zeroing session and the timing/weather couldn't coincide. I needed a bullet/barrel test before I stock up on ammo prior to putting in a variation cos no knowing how long I'll be without my ticket.

Anyway, 3AM came around on Thursday morning and I couldn't get to sleep. Then I had a brain fart and decided to go shooting. I was knackered by the time I got there after carrying rifle/quiver with sticks/tripods/spotting scope/stool and an extra large bag with everything else in including the F1 Chrony and an extra large flask of tea.

I had to guess a zero distance that turned out to be about 68yds, set up some targets on a pallet and lit it up with a torch. Didn't have a table/bench so had to use the quad sticks (or quin sticks in my case) while leaning up against the hut thing. It was so cold I could hardly feel my fingers half the time so the idea of a proper test with the Chrony went completely out the window but I managed a zero of sorts and then proceeded with the test, By then it was getting light so I replaced the pallet to 55yds and this was the result;

All these shots were taken at 55yds using the 69yd zero cos I was just looking for grouping. I re-zeroed afterward. Note the Eley match are round nose and not hollow point.

I had run out of my usual ammo of choice, win subs. Not a conclusive test but it gives me an idea of what's good/bad. I'll do it properly when things warm up a bit. I didn't clean the barrel at all.

The bunnies had made themselves scarce by that time but I did have a mooch and managed two but only collected one. The other one, despite doing that thing they do when they go all stiff and do a slow motion falling over thing was nowhere to be found.I hadn't realised it was next to a large warren and must have gone down a hole..
