Staghounds

Recommended Posts

i will answer your question ALLGAME. about bull crosses and not staghounds.

well actualy we do yous stags, it just that we call them lurchers, even bull crosses are still concidered lurchers.

our lurchers come in a ranges of shapes and sizes , where as your stags are on the hole , tall and lean like deer/grey, i know theres a few other breeds in some strains, but that to us is still a lurcher.

its just you lot down there dont know how to speak the queens english :whistling:

"By Golly 'ol chap I do believe I just sighted a fox, shall we release the hounds" ...like that ey?? LOL

Haha yep plenty of deer/greys over there catching big stuff as well, not just here. Got some of the Aussie blood over there too although it'd be well diluted by now as a lot of the posher folk took their kangaroo dogs back to England with them. Lord 'such and such' and Sir 'whos'it'.

HaHaHa Tomo. weve had a few of your lot come over to work with us of late, good blokes they enjoy the beer and the sun shine, just cant understand them. lol

I could be wrong but I was under the impression that a cross between to different sighthounds is a longdog.

The term staghound as best as I can make out was a local name for a scotish deerhound, now days the name has been given to our coated long dogs, the smooth haired verity is known as kangaroo dogs, both the same type apart from coat.

More than welcome Tomo, I had a run out with Aaron a few weeks back, we could make a weekend of it!! With all these useless stags!! Aaron may be taking one of my pups so we should have an 'army of darkness' to run with.

I dont know about teaching us how to drink though.... and no moaning allowed LOL

It is a hardy crossbred sighthound that is generally a cross between a sighthound and a working breed, usually a pastoral dog or Terrier.

That's more like it mate

There's not many folk use the term longdog these days. We generally just call them all lurchers mate

i run a few saluki x stags and i can see them becoming alot more popular to. they make a far better dedacated fox dog than most of the straight stags getting around because they are smaller and quicker off the mark. you see alot of stags have whippet in them to for the same reason it just adds that extra little somehting special to them.
