jok 3,266
Know what Devon Fighter. Blackthorn and holly are without doubt the best sticks. HOWEVER. I have just seen the most unusual 'stick'. A bulls dick. Fck me what a thing. Good 39 inch which puts us all to shame.
CushtyJook 1,097
Strange but must be voiced. I've never heard of anyone stripping hazel. I thought the beauty was in the bark when varnished?? Can only think of stripped holly and blackthorn. Beautiful when finished nice.I stripped and left for a few months then worked on it does hazel look better dried out then varnished without stripping bark of then

There are 14 sticks in the photo and each one is different and gives each stick a character of it's own. TC Edited January 27, 2016 by tiercel
devon flighter 421
dont think its a case of what looks best cushty more a case of tradition !but the main thing is to make something YOU LIKE then you will use it ! sometimes if you dont try things you will never know
jok 3,266
Yes pal. In fact you will never find a stripped hazel at any game fair in the land. The beauty is in the colour and the longevity of the bark. When varnished it will last forever.
devon flighter 421
i think thats why hazel is so popular as a stick tc theres so much variation you can match it to anything for a head !

Tiercel 6,986
A few of the last ones I made, two Oak tops and a kids antler one. None of my sticks will win any prizes, because I do not like them like a snooker cue. Some say it's because I cannot get the straight, But I know different.
