jigsaw 11,899
I have to admit to something here now..............i was out last Friday week at 8.a.m,walking the 1st field,we were looking for a bit of banging about in the cover, half way across the field 2 fallow stags of a very decent size broke from cover and took off straight up the field,3 dogs loose,a d/h 1st cross greyhound and 2 saluki/greyhounds 1st x.the stags had a 150 yard start but the field was 3 acres long, now I was thinking this is going to be interesting,my heart was in my mouth, the ground was very soft but the grass was short so I watched. The 3 dogs pulled into the stags with 6 ft behind, all through the field but never got to terms with them to take a hold or try a grab.I thought the dogs would in the end have out run em but these 2 stags were absolutely flying, they hit the bank at full speed in the end of the field and dissapeared into the trees with the 3 dogs right on their butts,6 ft behind only.It was great to watch but i never realised these deer could run so far and so fast.I reckon my 2 dogs are no slow coaches, they can run big rabbits to a standstill at times but these 2 stags were something else.I am not accustomed to seeing deer on a regular basis but these opened my mind to how much ground they can cover at speed.I was so sure I had me knife out as well,lol..am I right in saying deer are not a foregone conclusion even with real fast saluki greyhounds? 3 Quote Link to post
