Observe the speed limit and its not an issue !   It's a limit, not a target !

Driving is one of those things that exposes the gulf between your ambitions and your capabilities........   I have always found it extraordinary that I could pass my test at 17, and I am immediately

it picks the signal up thats emitted so will pick it up from round bends up some can pick it up from two miles away

An average modern car actually stops in about half that distance. And you're assuming in case of an accident the car in front is going to stop dead. I'm not advocating higher speed limits, just pointing out a fact.

I agree if a person hasnt got the reactions to stop a modern car from 70 mph in 100 yards they shouldnt be on the road......thats what 30 car lengths for crying out loud !

If you're motorway driving, why is 70 mph NOT fast enough ? The stopping distance at that speed is close on 100 metres, on a dry road !

Given that I can seldlom remember seeing cars that far apart, why is there this constant call to increase speed limits ?

Can you imagine those same cars at 100mph, or more, just a few metres apart ? Carnage !!

However you need to also consider things falling off the vehicle in front. Half an exhaust systems comes back pretty fast, especially if you are too close.

I think the driving test should be a lot more difficult its just unrealistic to think that everyone can pass it......being a good driver is just not something every single one of us will be,thats basic logic.......im not the greatest driver in the world but i drive well enough to pass a test......but i remember when my daughter first passed her test and i bought her a car i couldnt believe how bad she drove......the thought that she could of legally got behind the wheel of a 180mph supercar is absoutely ridiculous !

Good point gnash. My missus has had a driving licence for 20 years and I still won't let her drive on a motorway. Even being in the car while she is joining a dual carriageway is a scary experience.

She hardly drives these days. For her own safety and the safety of others. It's not for everyone.

how old are you gaz?

27 next month why fella?

just that your missus had her driving licence over 20years you like the older woman too i see mate

There's a 40mph speed limit at the Forth Road Bridge the now using the average speed cameras. Not sure why it's 40...,must be a safety thing. It's not like they are needing the money to help fund the building of a 3rd bridge......oh wait a minute!!

if no one broke the limit they wouldn't get the fine simple really
