Lab 10,979
Observe the speed limit and its not an issue ! It's a limit, not a target ! But some of the 'limits' are nonsense and do not represent what the cars can do now...So, because a car can do 120 mph, are you saying that you should be allowed to drive at that speed ?Why not in certain areas....? Works in Germany. As for motorways you should be able to do what you are confident and capable of doing. I have yet to meet a driver, myself included who had an accurate assessment of their driving capabilities. TC So your telling me your not capable of driving a car confidently at the speed limit??? If you couldn't do that you would not have passed, and nor you should. I passed an old woman in a small car tonight, on the motorway and she was doing about 25mph with her face up at the windscreen. I hope the police came along and take her license of her.
tb25 4,627
As my old man is getting older lab he scares me to death with his slow driving..more dangerous than speeding at times.. I think we have it right with our current speed limits though tbh .

What I tried to say in a nice way is that people like you think they are gods gift to driving and can do marvellous things in a car. The cemeteries are full of them. And the innocent people they take with them. TC

Speed limits are a money making racket. If it was for genuine safety then cars would be limited to 70.

gnasher16 30,121
People pay hundreds of thousands of pounds for legal cars that will do 170/180 mph illegally.......and you think speed cameras are here for our safety
neil82 1,080
i think there device will spot you before yours spots theres, all this police hi tec gear,we have them around our way all the time but good drivers always warn eache other flashing lights at oncoming traffic, but there crafty feckers i always try to keep just below the speed limit in the area Shouldn't you stay just below the speed limit in EVERY area........?? if you drive to your car`s speedo your already under the limit, ALL speedo`s overestimate actual road speed
neil82 1,080
one of the early systems had 2 sensors/emitters mounted by the number plate, used to pick up the signal from a camera and bounce one back that was far more powerful, sent the speed camera into reset mode giving you time to slow down, haven't seen one for years

Works in Germany. And brakes in the new cars are far more advanced now. I think 30 is a fine speed for in the town, if your paying attention and nobody just jumps out in front of you then fatalities would be minor. As for motorways you should be able to do what you are confident and capable of doing. There is a big difference between what speed you think you are capable of doing and what speed you are actually capable of doing. Why on earth would you want the motorways full of idiots doing 155mph? I sure wouldn't. I see the idiots struggling to manage 50 safely every day.

I see plenty idiots too........but there usual driving too slow rather than too fast. You can argue all day what speed limit would be more acceptable......on a motorway 70 is a joke and it's made at that to make money. We should have stricter rules on passing your test.....we all know folk who have a license and shouldn't.
waltjnr 6,783
i would guess that most money made in speeding fines is the people doing 35-6 in a 30mph zone,i did a speeding course for exactly that and out of 24 people only one had been done on a motorway, and that was in a section with a tempoary 50mph restriction,(incase anyone hit one of the cones that that stretched for a couple of miles) As you say Lab ,stricter rules on passing test ,once your 60 years old a refresher every 2 years ,just try and get a better standard of driver on the roads!
walshie 2,804
I went on one of those speed awareness courses about a year ago. In the class of 22 people, half knew the speed limit for a car on a motorway. The other half was split between 60mph and 80mph. That's appalling. Oh yes, and ONE person out of the 22 (me) knew what the National speed limit sign was and what it meant.
