walshie 2,804
The fact that the detector is aimed at the number plate means it can't possibly detect you unless there is a clear line of sight.....? Correct. My question (that dymented answered) was, does the detector in the car have to see the camera van to detect the laser?

fatlad 250
camera detecters are known as accident black spot detecters thats how there legal because as we all know cameras are there to prevent accidents and only ever put where the roads are dangerous, every time they tried to ban them its been pointed out to the government they detect dangerous roads where accidents occur

Why not in certain areas....? Works in Germany. And brakes in the new cars are far more advanced now. I think 30 is a fine speed for in the town, if your paying attention and nobody just jumps out in front of you then fatalities would be minor. As for motorways you should be able to do what you are confident and capable of doing.

I have yet to meet a driver, myself included who had an accurate assessment of their driving capabilities. TC
walshie 2,804
Speed isn't dangerous. Inappropriate speed is. There might be times when 30 in a 30 zone is far too fast for the conditions. Don't forget all the stopping distances were set for the highway code years ago when a Ford Anglia was cutting edge technology.
